Gilles Barge joined the family operation in 1979 and took sole charge in 1994, following Pierre’s retirement.
He makes very classical wines, which see minimal oak and express their origin. The Cuvée Duplessy is the most accessible of the Côte-Rôties, aromatic and a touch feminine, whilst the Côte Brune is more backward and linear and very classic. The new addition, Le Combard, lies somewhere between the two stylistically. Both the Saint-Joseph and the Condrieu which are made in small quantities are well worth seeking out.
