Domaine Hubert de Montille

Etienne and his sister Alix run the domaine, which, thanks to some recent daring purchases is now 5 times the size it was when their father, Hubert, took over the family vineyards just after the war.

The style of the wines was traditionally ‘un-sexy’: they were wines that needed time, as in youth there were austere rather than lush. Patience was generally rewarded and those lucky enough to enjoy mature bottles were loyal advocates.

As Etienne gradually took over from his father so the wines took on a little more flesh in their early years. However, they retained their elegance, refinement and purity. This has made for a great marriage and over the past few vintages the wines have been sublime.

The new additions have added real, exciting depth to the range and clearly put a spring in Etienne’s step but the progress made at the domaine in the past decade can be most clearly seen when tasting the likes of the Volnay Taillepieds and Pommard Pézerolles which have been outstanding recently.

Try the old vintages that we prized out of the cellars and you’ll love them. You’ll then get even more excited as you relish the prospect of the younger vintages reaching such maturity.
