It’s finding domaines like this one that makes our job so rewarding. Pierre took over from his father in 2005 and has really brought the impressive array of vineyards that Gilles had amassed to life.
He loves spending time amongst the vines and much of his rapid success can be attributed to the work he has done there. His approach in the cellar has been equally impressive. He divided up his three cuvées of Gevrey-Chambertin as he felt they each had something to say independently which they certainly do. His 1ers and Grands Crus are impressive, especially so when one looks at the prices. There are lots of old vines in the domaine and this allows Pierre to work with the natural concentration of the juices rather than forcing them. The tannins are wonderfully seamless and the there is great finesse and purity. His recent reviews for his 2009s in The World of Fine Wine were outstanding. Very much a name to watch.
