Surely this is the best domaine in the Ventoux, an area attracting more and more interest from both growers and drinkers alike. Nestling in the shadow of the Mont Ventoux, the region lies about an hour's drive to the east of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and its altitude can mean a significant variation in temperature between the two areas. In fact the cooler evenings are key in instilling a unique freshness into the wines that really lifts the sweet, rich fruit flavours.
At Pesquié, business is run very much as a family affair. The Chaudières have over 70 hectares of vines, many of which are old. The cuverie is state of the art and the quality of the fruit coming in to it is of the highest standard. Various different cuvées are made and we are concentrating on the top two. Both have received rave reviews and offer a huge amount of intensity and complexity. About 18 months ago we tasted blind the first ever vintage of Quintessence, 1989, and were bowled over by it. It seemed so young, perhaps five or six years old with the class and noble structure of a serious Cru Classé Bordeaux. Both the 2005 and the 2006 promise to be even better, whilst the Artemia (old vines and very low yields - 2004 was the inaugural vintage) will be sensational. These are massively cheap for what's in the bottle. Please indulge yourselves! You won't regret it.
