This is a sumptuous and imposing property that dwarfs the village of Montfaucon, which lies across the river from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The history of the Château makes for an interesting contrast with the innovative nature of winemaker Rudolph, who is really pushing the boundaries of this little cormer of the southern Rhone.
He makes impressive wine, from his mini white Châteauneuf (Comtesse Madeleine) up to his long living, special Côtes-du-Rhône cuvée Baron Louis. He hopes to have Montfaucon granted its own appellation in time and given his drive and ambition you'd be wise to not bet against it happening.
Rudolph is also a member of the Rhône gangsters, his Baron Louis juice being blended with Pesquié's Artemia and St Cosme's Valbelle.
