This is the domaine of Henry Marionnet and his son Jean Sebastien, who is now in charge. It is a large estate, totalling fifty hectares but it is run with meticulous care and attention. Jean-Sebastien makes several different cuvées of both red and white wine, but we are concentrating on just two wines; his mouthwatering ‘basic’ Sauvignon, which is a delight to drink now, and his astonishing special cuvée of Sauvignon Blanc, which is like no other Touraine Sauvignon you will ever have tasted. In all honesty it is a shame to drink this so young, such is its ageing potential, but when a wine is this good it still gives great pleasure even now. We recently drank a half empty bottle that we'd had on tasting a week previously and it was stunning; full of life and freshness. There are two points to be made here. Firstly, we don't normally have half empty bottles hanging around for a week but, in our defence, we had a lot of bottles to get through! And secondly, and more seriously, a wine that is that good after such a lengthy exposure to oxygen has impeccable stability and purity which means it has the potential to age for a very long time. A testament to its undoubted quality.
