In 1969 Aldo Conterno split from his brother Giovanni (Giacomo Conterno) to set up on his own, since when his estate has become one of the names in Piemonte. The estate is now run by his two sons, Franco and Giacomo, who appear to have the same dedication to quality as their father. They make wonderfully classic and pure wines that show impressive varietal character and possess enviable ability to age with the utmost grace. Cheap they are not, but superb they are.
