Winemaker Paoli De Marchi and the flagship wine, Cepparello, have been at the very centre of the evolvement of Sangiovese in Tuscany. The meticulous attention that is put into the maintainence of the vineyards has meant that, if anything, Isole e Olena's reputation has streched further clear of the competition.
It is often the sign of a great talent that a winemaker is able to craft wonderful wines from lesser years and this is certainly the case with De Marchi. However, when presented with perfect conditions, as in 2005, the outcome has been a Chianti of the highest calibre. 2003 was also a superb vintage and the '03 Cepparello looks set to become a classic. Awarded the maximum Three Glasses by Italian Wines 2007, the tasting note needs no further comment; “Simply delicious on the palate, its suppleness is judiciously supported by rounded tannins and a tasty acidic grip, with a solid thrust towards a finale impressive as it is long”.
