Tragedy struck this burgeoning estate in the fall of 2004 when owner and winemaker Reinhard Knebel took his own life. It came as a massive shock to everyone, especially as the estate was really flourishing and just presented an outstanding range of 2003s.
Reinhard’s wife has subsequently decided to take the estate forward with the help of consultant Gernot Kollman In the longer term either one or both of their sons make take over the family business.
Based in the town of Winningen, the estate consists of 7 hectares of prime local vineyards. The wines blend an impressive intensity of fruit character with a strong mineral edge. Despite the overwhelming setback the future for this estate, at least wine-wise, looks very promising and the wines come highly recommended.
