Yves Confuron, who also makes the wines at Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot in Vosne-Romanee, has been in charge of all things viticultural at this top class domaine for a decade now. Exceptionally hard working and dedicated Yves has strong opinions on winemaking but never has a cheeky smile far from his face. Unaffected by the whims of fashion when it comes to work, either in the vineyard or in the cellar, Yves relies on his low yielding, late picked old vines to do the business for him. That is not to say his work in the cellar is unimportant, more that his role is to nurture the wines so that they express the character of the vineyards.
Yves has managed to fashion a string of terrific Pommards over the past 10 years even in tricky years such as 2000 and 2001 when severe storms hit the region at just the wrong time. In such vintages Yves makes wine to be enjoyed in their relative youth, whilst in the best years, such as 2002 and 2005, he produces Pommards that will last a generation. This is one of Yves' great skills, his belief in adapting to the characteristics of each vintage and crafting a wine that reflects them.
