The amiable Sylvain Cathiard has become one of the most highly regarded winemakers in Burgundy in recent years. It is hard to imagine that as recently as the early 1990s, Clive Coates' much respected publication, 'The Vine', stated that Sylvain had 'no known UK importer'. Today his wines are like gold dust and importers clamour at his door for an allocation. We were lucky enough to be given one and are delighted to be able to include his wines in our portfolio. He has been joined by his son Sebastien, who has spent time in New Zealand at some of the best Pinot producing estates. Together they are producing, quite simply, brilliant Pinots Noirs that delight the senses. Like all great Burgundies they combine finesse and power perfectly and sing of where they come from. 2009 sees the family embarking on a new project; the construction of a massive new cuverie that will link the existing cellars together in a very productive way. This will be Sylvain's legacy to this great family domaine, whose future in the top echelons of Burgundy domaines seems assured. Please note that unfortunately most of Sylvain's wines disappear en primeur each January so don't blink or you might miss out!
