Flint Wines was formed on July 3^rd 2006 by Sam Clarke and Jason Haynes. Friends for many years, they felt an opportunity to work together in wine was too exciting a prospect to pass up.

They arrived at this juncture via different paths. In 1995 Sam left St Andrews University with a degree in philosophy (and a useful golf swing) to join Sporting Index. Then in its fledgling years, it quickly became established as the leading player in a hugely expanded market.  During his time there, whilst not working, Sam indulged his love of food and wine and became a passionate and serious private collector.

Meanwhile, having left Kent University a little earlier (1989), Jason began a career in wine with Conran Restaurants, before joining renowned Burgundy specialists, O.W. Loeb as buyer in 1996. It was here that his love of the region and its winemakers was deeply engrained in his heart and it was therefore particularly gratifying for him when O.W. Loeb were awarded the much sought-after accolade of Burgundy Wine Merchant of the Year in 2001.

 When they began discussing the possibility of setting up a new venture together they soon realised that with their different qualities and experiences they would be able to bring something new and fresh to the table. Their aim is to encourage an honest and informal approach towards wine. They have no intention of compromising on the quality of the wines they buy and sell but they are anxious to make the whole process as accessible and unpretentious as possible. Wines are there to be drunk and enjoyed and whilst certain bottles inspire a degree of deserved reverence, it’s important to remember that wine, like food, is just part of what contributes to great social occasions.

 As a small company Sam and Jason will be able to offer personal and tailored advice based on genuine knowledge and experience. They intend to be your contact with the people who actually make the wine. Whether you need something at the last minute for an important dinner party or whether you want to start putting away some sought-after wines for later in life they can ensure you choose the right wine.

 We hope it will be fun for you, as well as for us, and that over the years we will form some special friendships with many of you, if for no other reason than to help you drink some of the wines we persuaded you to buy when you first bought from us!
